Stern began her art training with Sparky LeBold.  She has studied with Chuck Mardorz, Tom Lockhart and Dan Beck at the Cottonnwood Art Academy in Colorado Springs,  Doug Dawson and Quang Ho at Art Student League of Denver,  Dan Sahli at Sahli School of Art, Evergreen, Colorado,  Kim English, Ray Venilla, Ned Mueller and Herman Raymond.
.
Stern was born and raised in Tokyo, Japan. She moved to Colorado Springs in 1972 after living in Washington, D.C. and New York City. She has practiced as a Certified Public Accountant in Colorado Springs. She is an avid traveler and has visited museums in the U.S., Europe and Japan. Moreover, Stern has participated in the many gallery and museum exhibitions nationally. In 2007 she was invited to show her work in Florence and Yeravan, Armenia.
Stern believes that her art represents a culmination of her life experience and her interest in history, literature, classical music and foreign languages. Her work reflects her exposure to and experience in diverse cultures. Wherever she travels and whatever she experiences, she sees the world as a parade of possible paintings, and she wishes to convey these sensations to the viewer.
